The Farm
Willow Wisp Organic Farm is a solar-powered farm located in Damascus, PA on the Delaware River.
Stewarded with care, farmer-owners Greg Swartz and Tannis Kowalchuk (NOFA-NY Farmers of the Year 2023) grow a diverse mix of certified organic vegetables, herbs, and cut flowers on 25 acres of river bottom soil.
As farmers, they take the long view that while growing food, one should always be improving the soil, increasing the farm’s biodiversity (above ground and below), and contributing to community health and economic prosperity. This is achieved using cover crops, field rotation, creating insect and wildlife habitat, using no pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic fertilizers.
Greg Swartz says, “We believe in Natural Capitalism.” Applied to agriculture, it means we must not only protect soil and water but also improve them. But producing food is not enough — we also need to sell it at a fair price in order to pay the humans working the land. That is to say that human capital is another resource to respect and value. We aim to be honorable employers that pay a fair wage and share the bounty with our team. Farming is a vocation that should be encouraged and valued, whether you are the farm owner or farm staff member.
